specifically the roles of research and development, innovation, experimentation, and
troubleshooting in the design process. Teams of 3-5 students will work together to solve an
engineering design challenge (EDC). The challenge is derived from the Parker Solar Probe
(PSP) mission, which began its journey to the Sun on August 12, 2018. NASA engineers and
scientists will assist as students design a shield to protect PSP’s critical instruments from the
Sun’s blazing heat. Be prepared to exhibit your creativity, learn, and have FUN!
