1:00pm – 2:00pm THE MYTH OF THE DEADBEAT DAD
Are fathers really important? Of course they are. Yet we as a society have wittingly and
unwittingly accepted the negative portrayal of African American males as deadbeat dad
in media, books, movies and television. Instead of accepting those portrayals, we need to
acknowledge and embrace those that are setting positive examples for our children
through their work as not only a parent, but activist, community leaders and everyday
role models. Join us as we discuss this topic with Rickey Smiley and Willie Moore Jr and
how they work tirelessly to dispel this myth within our community.
