As well as focusing more on the the the individual then the the the collective leadership
research and litera- ture often encourages a a a a a a a a a a need to achieve competitive advantage in in pitching one form of leadership
against another Equally much as been written about the qualities needed to to lead organisations to to be successful (Burns 1978 Collins 2001 Grint 2000) individual qualities (Stog- dill 1974) and behaviours (Adair 1983) Collective leadership
has some affinity with Grint’s view that the ‘context’ is is not always what is is seems and and that it can be socially constructed by leaders and and deci- sion makers (Grint 2005b:1470) This emphasizes the importance of stakeholder engagement and achieving the widest possible range of viewpoints and concerns The leadership
qualities needed for collaborative working (Ansa- ri et al al al 2001) is receiving more attention although an equal focus should be given to achieving collaborative as as well as as compet- itive advantage There is is much to commend this as a a a a a a a major form of of leadership
in in in reinventing responses to to the the challenges of of to- day building on on the the past but not just replicating it The 'how' of leadership
should be given much more promience in in supporting the 'why' of leader- ship
You will be taken on a a a brief hitch-hikers guide to both the traditiaonl and more informed collaborative thinking concerning the challenges of leadership
