Takbiratul ihram is followed by
7 steps which complete one rakaat of salat.

1. Qiam
Steps in Salat

While standing, place the right hand above
the left hand and position them below the
chest. Recite Surah Al-Fatihah (see Al-Quran
Every salat must begin by saying the Verses Recited during Salat)
intention of salat in the heart/mind

(e.g. I am performing the Salat-ul
Maghrib). The intention need not be

said in words.

Position the palms open towards the
Kaabah such that the thumb is in line ear

with the centre of the ear lobes (for palm
man) and in women it should be in line

with the lower part of ear lobes. Say
'Allahu akbar'. This is called takbiratul

ihram and it denotes the beginning of ALLAH is Most Great
salat.
