2. INTRODUCTION
2.1 This report details an Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) undertaken in respect of proposed
development at Land rear of Eden Meadows, Newington, Sittingbourne, Kent (site centred TQ 86351
64531).
COMMISSION
2.2 Native Ecology was commissioned by Esquire Developments Ltd in February 2020 to undertake further
surveys for reptiles within the Site and produce an Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) report.
APPLICATION SITE
2.3 The application site, hereafter referred to as ‘the Site’ extends to approximately 1.53ha and comprises
predominantly grassland, with a small areas of scrub around the site boundary. A single mature tree
is present within the site close to the eastern site boundary. There is a relatively small area of ruderal
/ ephemeral habitat and temporary gravel hard standing and access road to the north of the Site,
associated with the development of the adjacent plot.
PROPOSED WORKS
2.4 Proposals include the construction of 40no. residential dwellings with associated access, gardens,
landscaping and a sustainable urban drainage system (SUDS).
PURPOSE OF REPORT
2.5 The objectives of the report are to:
• Describe the baseline ecological conditions present within the site;
• Identify and describe all potentially significant ecological effects associated with the proposed
development;
• Provide appropriate mitigation, allowing significant ecological effects to be avoided or
minimised, ensuring no net loss of biodiversity value within the site;
• Identify how mitigation measures will/could be secured;
• Identify appropriate enhancement measures; and
• Set out the requirements for post-construction monitoring (if required).
