At the exclamation, the deacon(s) approach the Hierarch for a blessing and then themselves proceed into the altar.
Before the small Entrance, the most senior priest raises the holy Gospel, hands it to the deacon (if there is no deacon, then the senior priest takes it for himself) and they go about with the Entrance.8 The Hierarch stands (if he has been sitting in his throne, he descends into the middle) while the priests and dea cons leave the altar with both the Gospel and with the dikiri and trikiri. Approaching the Hierarch, the deacon (or priest) with the Gospel says: Let us pray to the Lord. And following the prayer of the hierarch: Bless, Master, the holy Entrance. After that he holds up the Gospel for the Hierarch to venerate, and thereafter leaves to stand before the holy doors where he makes the sign of the cross with the Gospel saying aloud: Wisdom. Let us stand aright! Then he enters into the altar and leaves the Gospel. The Hierarch, having taken the dikiri and trikiri, chants: Come let us worship...9 At the words Save us, O son of God, the Hierarch blesses with the dikiri and trikiri towards the east, then west, then south, and finally north.10
