In the above diptych we again demonstrate how, when the figures are taken out from a Byzantine icon (image on the left), that which remains, the monochromatic surface distinctly framed by a complimentary colour, as well as (in this case) freely rendered colour bands at the top and bottom of the composition, could easily be mistaken for one of Rothko’s classic works (such as the one on the right of this diptych).
