To the western public, Bosnia and Herze- govina has become both symbol and reali- ty of the wanton brutality connected with inter-ethnic and religious warfare. In the belief that all history, no matter how pain- ful its outcome in our own times, must be written sine ira et studio, that is, that it must be as objective as possible in order to achieve a better understanding of both past and present, Prof. Bataković have un- dertaken this project of writing a short his- tory of the Bosnian Serbs.
