Tasks of the After-Reading Stage for Older Stories
Examples of Before-Reading Activities
1. [Looking Ahead and] Looking Back
2. Interview
In the after-reading stage, the tasks outlined above as well as the tasks below can be adapted as required to support older students to analyse concepts for deeper understanding of ideas and organise information for on-going research and inquiry.=
The looking ahead task was introduced in the before-reading stage. For the after-reading stage, encourage students to compare their predictions from the beginning with what they actually encountered during the reading.
Have students interview their kaumātua about their experiences or knowledge of the topics within the story. The students could then present their information back to the class in a format of their choice i.e. news report, digital presentation, biography.
