When deliberately arranged as in Fig 4, it forms a quick, non~ 3
decorative and somewhat un-seamanlike stopper knot.
More generally, it was used, in series, at given centres throughout
the length of the lifelines, hanging from the wire connecting the Figure of
heads of the lifeboat davits to the waterline.
