Mats, perhaps more than any other form of decorative
ropework, provide the means of creating a multitude of 95
designs, the illustration merely showing a suggested layout
comprising a jury mat centrepiece surrounded by an oval Suggested
       of double chain plait.
Eleven individual carrick mats surround the centrepiece
followed by four runs of three-strand common sennit, Layout of
the first scalloped and the remainder forming the border,
the whole being sewn together with sail twine or the Multi-Unit
       modern equivalent.
