             Geography & Weather

             Weather data provided by weather.com

             Climate

Mali has three main seasons: the hot season (roughly March to June); the humid wet season (June to October); and the cool, dry season (October to February). The
climate varies according to area, with the large Saharan area in the north receiving little rainfall; moving south to the semi-desert Sahelian area; and finally the south
(Sudanese zone), where there is more rainfall. The dry and dusty 'harmattan' wind blows in February from the Sahara. The average annual temperature is 30°C (86°F).

             GEOGRAPHY
Mali is located in West Africa and shares borders with Mauritania, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea, Niger and Senegal. The country is covered by savannah
in the south, semi-arid terrain in the centre and a desert plateau in the north. More than 60% of the country is desert or semi-desert terrain, unsuitable for cultivation.
However, the Niger river runs north-east through Mali, creating a highly fertile pocket in an otherwise barren country. The Niger is also crucial for navigation and
transport. The other major waterway in Mali is the Senegal river in the west of the country. The country is divided into eight administrative regions – Gao, Kayes, Kidal,
Koulikoro, Mopti, Segou, Sikasso and Timbuktu.
