What did a typical day look like in the military?
All Marines are “riflemen” first, but I played many roles during the
eight years that I served. I began as an 1141 Basic Electrician, since
I was studying electrical engineering at the time, and then
continued as a radio operator, Humvee driver, Humvee instructor,
Paratrooper and reached the rank of Sergeant. I was in a jump
unit, one of two in the Marine Corps that parachutes out of
airplanes. I had the amazing opportunity to go to the US Army’s
Airborne school and became jump-qualified. On a typical day,
we’d wake up really early and train, ready to load up in a C130 or
a C141 and jump out of a perfectively good airplane!
What inspired you to serve?
I wanted to make sure I did my part to protect our country.
What learnings did you take away that you still use to this day?
Mission accomplishment and troop welfare! Marines always get
their mission accomplished and look after their troops. Semper Fi!
