144 | A New Light 5 Chapter Five:
Even if at times his words are blocked and he cannot
even open his mouth to speak to Him, may He be
blessed, the very fact that he is prepared and standing
before Him, may He be blessed, and he wants and yearns
to speak, even though he cannot, is itself very good. He
can speak and pray about that topic itself. He should cry
out and beg Him, may He be blessed, stating that he is
so far that he cannot even speak, and he should seek
compassion from Him, may He be blessed, pleading for
Him to have mercy on him and open his mouth, so that
he may speak to Him.
Know that quite a number of great, famous tzaddikim
related that they only attained their level by means of
this practice. The wise person will understand on his own
the great level of this practice, the very highest of levels.
And it is accessible to every individual, from the small to
the great, because everyone can engage in this practice,
and in this way every person will reach a great level.
Fortunate is the person who engages in this.
This demands that you make a resolute commitment to set
aside a place and time to meet with the Creator, and to
begin to implement this in actuality every day like a Swiss
watch. Do not compromise on any part of this, because you have
already received the greatest discount: a 99.99 percent discount.
All that is left for you to do is to make an opening like the eye of
a needle, and the rest is “on the house.” This is the rock-bottom
price. Therefore, make a firm resolution. Right now, say aloud:
“I will not rest and I will not be silent until today I find a way to
set aside an hour in my daily schedule for the most important and
greatest factor in my life: for my intent, for my essence, for my
repentance, for my rectification, for my Garden of Eden….”
Do Your Part
This is not at all hard. People ask me: “How can I speak for an

entire hour?” You do not need to speak. All you have to do is set
aside time for a meeting with the Creator. Come to the meeting
and be alone with the Creator. Do this in the simplest way, even
if you have nothing to say. Only try, as best you can, to induce
yourself to say whatever you can, and to want and yearn as much
as you can. Know that you are in an hour-long meeting. Until you
finish the entire hour, you are not leaving. Even when you feel
confused or frustrated, whether you feel like staying or not, you
cannot go, because you are in the middle of a meeting. Understand
this well: you are in a meeting with the Creator. You do not leave
until the meeting ends.
Rabbi Nachman of Breslov guaranteed you that by following this
simple advice you will rise on the perfect pathway to your perfect
rectification. By means of this practice, you will attain the perfect
rectification of all of your incarnations—which is to say, you will
attain your ultimate purpose.
A Great and Powerful Medicine
The hour that a person dedicates to his personal work is a wonderful
vehicle that will bring him close to Hashem, to repentance, to
manifest faith and to all of the good in this world, as is stated
explicitly by the greatest of the generations and in particular the
master of ethical teachings and the ways of serving God, Rabbi
Moshe Chaim Luzzatto (the Ramchal), in his Derech Eitz Chaim:
This is the greatest and most powerful medicine
that you can produce against your evil inclination.
It is easy and its effect is great and it bears much
fruit. A person should stand every day for at least one
hour free of all other thoughts to think only about what I
have discussed, and to inquire in his heart: what did the
early ones, the fathers of the world, do so that Hashem
desired them? What did Moses our teacher, peace be
upon him, do? What did David, the anointed one of
Hashem, and all of the great ones who were before us,
do?
