In describing the Generation of the Flood and their great sins, the pasuk
says, “For all flesh had corrupted its way ( ) on earth.” The letters
mean to dwell, and the numerical value of the letters is twenty-six, the
same as the Four-Letter Name of Hashem. This means that they corrupted
their spark of divinity to the core, pushing away Hashem’s presence which
dwells within each and every one of us.

Man’s connection with Hashem is through the letter of His Name that He
places within man, the that represents the Divine spark of life. It also
represents the life force which flows in from the next world. By sinning,
one extinguishes that spark and severs his life-giving link with the next
