The Torah criticizes Noach for planting a vine the first thing after the
Flood.
Noach had many trials and tribulations in the Ark and suffered a year of
hardship. He wanted to alleviate some of his tension and distress by
drinking wine. The only true way to deal with and face a dire situation is
to strengthen one’s resolve and to renew one’s commitment to a Torah
way of life. Noach’s actions earned him the title of ‘farmer’.
