A convert is called ‘ben Avraham.’ This is because he follows in the
footsteps of Avraham Avinu who became like a new person by leaving
home. Every convert leaves his family fold and becomes a ‘newborn.’
“But of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Bad
you must not eat from, for on the day you eat of
it you shall surely die”
(Bereishit 2:17)
