Why did the brothers want to kill Yosef? Why did Hashem silently
acquiesce to the sale? Why didn’t Yosef ask his captives to have his father
redeem him?

Yosef was worthy of being punished. His dreams violated kibbud av v’em,
and the sovereignty of Yehudah’s kingship. Additionally, he spoke evil of
his brothers. Yosef accepted his verdict, and Hashem kept quiet about the
sale.

The brothers should have responded to Yosef’s cries with compassion,
even if he deserved to be punished. They shouldn’t have caused Yaakov
more anguish by dipping Yosef’s garment in blood before sending it to
him. Moreover, they shouldn’t have sat down to eat after pronouncing
judgment.
