The story about Pharaoh’s dreams exposes the evil side of the reshaim and
the righteousness of the tzaddikim. The Chief Butler had only derogatory
things to say about Yosef, calling him a lad, a Jew, and a lowly servant.
He mentioned Yosef only as a last resort, afraid he would be punished for
withholding information from Pharaoh.
Yosef displayed tremendous humility. He did not attribute the
interpretation to his own sagacity, nor did he take a quick offense at
personal affronts. This he learned from Hashem. He also offered counsel
on how to deal with the famine.
