ABOUT FESTIVAL AT SEA
In 1992 a group of 250 African-Americans took part in the first African-American theme cruise
called Festival at Sea. Many people have contributed to its success. Over the years Festival
at Sea has grown into an annual full-ship charter where over 3000 people come together
for a week of camaraderie. We’ve seen many new friendships develop and generations
grow up together. People from all over come to celebrate graduations, birthdays and
weddings. Every year tears flow as couples renew their wedding vows in glorious African
attire. Teams claim bragging rights after running a ‘Bid Whist Boston’. Decks are always filled
on special theme parties and during our famous 'White Night' event. We see fraternity and
sorority members stepping and competing as crowds cheer them on. These are just some of
the little things that go on throughout the week that makes Festival at Sea a one-of-a-kind
experience. Each event has been designed specifically for you around our unique culture.
We’re looking forward to our 29th year and hope you have the opportunity to join us soon.
HOW FRIENDS BEGAN
After six successful years of Festival at Sea, “Cruising with an African American Twist”
continued to grow. Many of us wanted to expand our horizons but didn’t want to sacrifice our
selected signature activities or dancing with our own DJ. We also wanted a more luxurious
and intimate feel onboard the ships. That was the beginning of Friends of Festival at Sea. We
said, “Goodbye Caribbean” and “Hello World”. Our company’s one-of-a-kind voyages offer
African-Americans opportunities to travel the world together and create fulfilling 'friend-
ships.' In 2020 we’ll explore a unique set of countries waiting to be discovered. We hope
you’ll join us. After all, you’ll be sailing in luxury with Friends.
