2018 League Chairman Travis Schroll

Q: How does Beardstown Savings serve the community beyond the walls of your bank?

Travis had this to say, “A community bank is intended to assist the
community and in Beardstown’s case the depositors own the bank.
They are what makes us who we are. We are there to serve them
and try not to lose sight of that. We are here to fill the niche/need
that is not available in the bigger markets. We offer bilingual
services and financial education programs. We (local banks) are
the area’s big donors for local charitable causes.” Currently, his
favorite project is leading the fundraising effort to collect donations
                      2016 Sponsors of the
Beardstown Savings Bulldogs to build a new community swimming pool. Participating in
affordable housing initiatives are big and so is assisting the local
schools. Travis is drawn toward “things we think make our community a better place, so it
becomes the kind of place to attract more people to Beardstown.”
Travis tends to speak in terms of “we” versus “I” and so when asked to name his career highlights,
I wasn’t surprised not to get a list. He did admit that becoming Chairman of The League was “a
big deal” to him. In his mind looking back over his career, it isn’t one singular moment or
achievement that stands out, but rather what he finds satisfying is witnessing the progress
Beardstown Savings has made through the years. He made it abundantly clear that he takes a
lot of pride in the team’s effort and never diminished the bank’s standing prior to his leadership.
He focuses on the big goals that are out there, knowing it might get a little scary, but “if I just do
the day to day work, we’ll get to them, and I love having that big end goal.” I suspect for Travis
it’s like going for that runner’s high.
