Reflecting on The 25th Challenge of Rural Leadership Course
“Words cannot do it justice”
“It has been a privilege to have participated in the 25th CRL course. Thank you”
What a privilege indeed! We live in
a world where superlatives are too readily used to describe the ordinary but this year’s CRL course, the 25th one held, rightly deserves the many and varied superlatives that have been used by the delegates to describe their unique experience.
“Wow! What an experience; an amazing two weeks!”
The course is multi-faceted, demanding much from the participants intellectually and emotionally. Speakers from the
world of agriculture included Minette Batters, Caroline Drummond and Adam Bedford. Leadership experience from the military and medicine world, was also shared, providing much food for thought.
sponsors, many of the delegates could not have been there. This is not to forget the contributions made by way of time off, and financial support, from many of the delegates’ employers.
It is a team effort in so many ways that enabled the delegates to experience the incredible life changing experience that is the CRL course.
“I have discovered myself” and “Life changing” are just two from the many comments that were said to me during my two visits to Dartington.
It was apparent, from the lively conversations shared with the
18 delegates, that the course far exceeded their expectations. All commented on the skill and wisdom of the course leaders, Richard Soffe and Geoff Kerr, and their much- appreciated team of Ali Bunkum and SueVanstone, not to mention our own Assistant Clerk, Duncan Couper.
“An indescribably brilliant two weeks”
One common thread that clearly came through was a huge acknowledgement and appreciation for the opportunity that had been ‘given’ to the delegates by the Worshipful Company of Farmers.
“What a fantastic life-changing two weeks I’ve had”
Without the support of the Livery members, through the generosity shown every time the Farm Cart goes round, the charitable donations from the Quarterage and from fund raising events, along with the continued support from the Livery’s corporate
“It’s not a myth.......it really is life- changing!”
A pebble had been dropped in the pond. To paraphrase Henry Adams, this course may affect eternity; we will never know where its influence stops.
“What an experience! Life affirming, enlightening and uplifting! It’s hard to put into words how much of an enormous privilege it was...apply, apply, apply!”
