Splish-Splash

I splash my toes into the sea

Soft rippling, the stars for me

Glowing plankton spin and flee

And disappear into the deep.

Oh, how I long for such a keep

An inky depth in which to creep

To hug me in its darkened sleep

And wink away the fading light.

I am blessed, on such a night—

Gentle seas and soft moonlight

Harbor breeze drifts warm, despite

Long hours, yet, 'til break of day.

I know not why I feel this way

Of plunging, deep, this briny bay

And giving death its final say...

Profound, its pull upon my soul.

Still, pain has taken such a toll -

Heartache left me far from whole

Yet... A perfect eve to sail this shoal...

I splash my toes into the sea.
