METHODS • First-morning voided urine
• 1 mL aliquot of urine cytocentrifuged, placed in Saccomanno fixative & stained with a rapid Papanicolaou stain
• Quantitative estimation over 10 HPFs for cells (RBCs, neutrophils, eosinophils, lymphocytes, renal cells [convoluted, collecting & necrotic] and casts
• The numbers of particles found multiplied by appropriate dilution factors to obtain standardized reporting
