February is Childhood Cancer awareness month. There is information on the LCI website, as to what the clubs can do. It is the second leading cause of death among children 5-14 years of age. Clubs can learn awareness about childhood cancer by holding an educational talk with a healthcare professional at your club meeting. You can also collaborate with a local childhood cancer hospital staff to learn about the needs of their patients and families. We as Lions can do something about it.
District Mid- Winter Conference was a success. There were good breakout sessions. Diabetes essay contest winners were Dennis Espiritu (DFLC-sponsor) 1st prize scholarship of $500 and 2nd prize $300 awarded to Ekta Upadhyay (DELC- sponsor). Congratulations to both winners. Club Excellence awards were given to four clubs in the district. I would like to see more clubs get the award, as it is not very difficult. Just follow the guidelines and Blue Print for a stronger club. We welcome the Plano Collin Nepalese Lions Club to the 2-X1 family, having been chartered on Jan 19, with 59 new charter members. The club is off to a good start. Our membership growth is strong with a net growth of 42, second in MD-2. Lastly, please report your service activity if you have not done so.

The Mid-Winter Conference and Third Cabinet Meeting in January were very successful. I really appreciate the Duncanville Noon Lions Club for hosting the meeting. In February, the DG and VDGs will be in Kerrville for the Third Council of Governors Meeting for 2018 – 2019. I look forward to being with all my council and going to the Texas Lions Camp. The Camp is truly the jewel of Lionism in Texas. Please work to both get campers for the Camp and to support the Camp with donations from your Club. Consider being a Century Club Member, working to be a Jack Wiech Fellow, or other great programs the Camp has.
The Third Executive Council Meeting will be held on February 13, 2019. Please see the Flyer in this edition of the Link (page 12).
Please start planning for your Clubs 2019 – 2020 Lions Year. Get your Nomination Committee organized to present your new slate of Club Officers. Also prepare to reward your members for their service during this Lions Year. Show your members you respect and honor their service. That is what Lions are all about. Speaking of honoring your new members please participate in the 2018-19 Grass Roots Lion event at the upcoming district convention. See pages 4 and 13 for description and application form.
