YOUTH CONTESTS
Every year District 2-X1 conducts Youth Contests for area school students who compete for Awards and Scholarship money. The contests are:
1 - Drug Awareness Speech (‘Student Speaker’) Contest 2 - Diabetes Awareness Essay Contest
3 - Outstanding Youth Contest
4 - Peace Poster Contest
5 - LC Essay Contest for visually impaired
Contests 1-3 are for juniors and seniors. District 2-X1 awards the top students scholarship money for college. The 1st Place winners also get a chance to compete at the MD2 Texas State Convention in Midland on May 19-21, 2016 for additional scholarship money. Guidelines for the State Contests can be viewed online at www.texaslions.org.
Contests 4-5 are for children 11-13 years old. District 2-X1 awards cash prizes to the top students. The winners of the District’s "Peace Poster Contest" and "Lions International Essay Contest" (for visually impaired children) also go on to compete at the State level and can even make to the International competition for higher recognition and cash prizes as high as $5000. Please visit: www.lionsclubs.org, select tab "How We Serve.”
Competing students at District level are sponsored by local Lions Clubs. Sponsoring a student in the contest by a club is very easy. Just contact the Speech/Debate and/or Arts Teacher of your local schools and local home school programs who are eager to help the students to get involved in scholarship programs. Lions Clubs are encouraged to sponsor area school students to participate in these contests conducted by District 2-X1.
It is important for all the clubs to support these programs by sponsoring students and/or donating $100 per contest to keep the scholarship fund self-sustaining. For more information and guidelines for sponsoring the students, please contact Youth Programs District Chair:
