LIONS SIGHT AND TISSUE FOUNDATION NEWS
Lion Harry Kattner Richardson Host Lions Club
The LSTF is starting the new year with great news and lots of excitement. Since 2007, the LSTF mobile clinic has provided thousands of eyeglasses to children and adults in District 2X-1 using the clinic bus that was purchased with the help of many of your clubs and a grant from LCIF. Starting in December, we will be operating with a new, state-of-the-art mobile clinic bus. We will continue to work with district clubs to provide clinics in your local communities, as well as with charter schools, health fairs and special events. We encourage your club to contact us about holding a vision clinic. This is a great way to help in your community and increase visibility for your club. We look forward to continuing our work in District 2X-1 as we serve the needs of our community.
On August 19, we participated in a Back-to-School health fair at The West Dallas Multipurpose Center, providing eye screening for kids getting ready for the new school year. We screened around 100 kids and put glasses on 33. This was a great success and we want to thank Lion Michelle and the folks at the West Dallas Multipurpose Center for organizing this. Coming up, we are preparing for a high- profile Eye Clinic at the Texas State Fair. We expect attendance from Lions Club dignitaries, as well as other local dignitaries. This will be a chance for us to highlight our work in the community. We will need volunteers to help us with this event. Contact IPDG Bill Smotherman for information.
Other clinics coming up:
September 8, North Dallas Shared Ministries Adult Eye Clinic
October 4, Hampton Uplift Clinic
October 12, Ennis Lions Club
In addition, we hope to hold an eye clinic on October 21 at the Binational Health Fair. More information will come later.
If your club would like to schedule a clinic, please contact Lion Neil Roach at neilroach@aol.com. If you would like to have a director visit your club for a program, contact Lion Todd Bowsher at trbowsher@att.net
Fund raising:
The annual Howard Snyder Golf Tournament scheduled for September 12 has been postponed until October 17th. Clubs interested should contact Lion Jerome Crittenden at s_jcrittenden@ hotmail.com, 214-947-3127 or Lion Mark Owens at mimotoow@verizon.net, 214-500-2353. Our 2nd Annual Bowl-a- Thon at The Red Bird Bowling Lanes is set for November 18th. We had a great time at this fundraiser last year and hope more clubs will participate this year. Organize your teams and get in touch with Lion Walter Hatfield at walthackfeld@sbcglobal.net so he can set up the teams with the bowling lanes.
