After camp this summer Percaya has been busy working to edit her book for publication next summer complete with illustrations done by a friend she met at Lions Camp.
What you all do is amazing. You rewire brains from, "I can't" to "I can." You rewrite stories from "Everyone else, but me..." to "Look what I can do!" The enthusiasm of the counselors and Lions how surround these kids for a week and pour for a week are wonder workers. As a parent I cannot thank you enough for helping Percaya literally write her own story, as she rewrites in her life what is possible. THANK YOU for all you do for all the kids who come to camp, but especially for what you have done for my girl who doesn't see the world the same way everyone else does, but is daily finding the blessings in the fantastic views that her different take on life brings her.
With love and infinite thanksgiving, Jenni Langston
DeSoto Lions Hold an Eye Clinic
The DeSoto Lions Club sponsored the District 2-X1 Vision Bus at the DeSoto Living Festival on Saturday June 23rd. The Living Festival is sponsored by the DeSoto Chamber of Commerce. Twenty one individuals were screened, of the twenty one screened, 4 had eye examinations and 3 were fitted for glasses. DeSoto Lions Ron Stuart, James Maddux, Paul Bailey, Allen Dunbar, John Ritter, Fred Hart and Paul Buckley endured the extreme heat to signup individuals for the screenings. Walt Hackfeld operated the vision bus and was assisted by Carmen Hackfeld. Thanks to Doctor Tran of Custom Eyes Vision Care of Cedar Hill and Doctor Rosita Ghazanfari with the Low Vision Clinic of Dallas for providing the examinations.
HELP WANTED: Sports Extravaganza
(l to R) Lion Fred Hart, Dr. Ghazanfarui, Lions Carmen Hackfeld, Walt Hackfeld, Paul Buckley and seated John Ritter
Sports Extravaganza has a special need. Last year, as we were preparing for Sports Extravaganza 2017 at Nimitz High School, a school bus accidentally ran over the golf cart ramp. The wooden ramp splintered into a thousand pieces right before our eyes! We used this ramp to transition over the curb between the supply barn and the field. There is no way the golf carts can make it up and down this curb without the ramp....or without our heads rattling off our shoulders and permanent damage to the golf carts!
We are in need of a handy lions club to build a new ramp. This ramp should be about 6 feet in length, and high enough to span the distance from the parking lot ground to the top of a traditional curb. It would need to have double reinforced 2X4's as support underneath, and a thicker than plywood top. The last ramp top surface was only 18-24 inches in depth from the top of the curb, slanted down to the level of the ground. We keep the ramp in a warehouse, so storage is not an issue.
If there is a club out there that interested in building the ramp call Randy Foederer or Christy Householter for more information. Thanks so much,
