Theme for 2017-18:
“The Future of Peace”
For the last 30 years Lions Clubs around the world have proudly sponsored the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups. This art contest encourages young people
worldwide to express their visions of peace. In celebration of 30th anniversary, District 2-X1 urges all Lions Clubs to engage with the youth in their community to sponsor a Peace Poster Contest entry.
How the Contest works: Only a Lions Club can sponsor the contest. There is no limit for the club’s participation provided the club acquires separate ‘Peace Poster Kit’ from LCI for each contest organized. The contest is open to young people ages 11, 12 & 13 on November 15, 2017.
Judging: Each poster is judged on originality, artistic merit and expression of the theme. Posters advance through several judging levels: local, district, multiple district and international. Only one poster is selected at the District 2-X1 level as its entry for Multiple District (Texas) contest. MD-2 then chooses one poster to send to International HQ for the final judging. At the international level, judges from the art, peace, youth, education and media communities select one grand prize and 23 merit award winners. More than 350,000 children participate annually world over. Winning posters are shared globally via the internet, social media, news outlets and travelling exhibits.
Awards: to Artists of posters, at various levels, are given as under:
$ 250 cash for District 2-X1 level winner (1st)
$ 125 cash for District 2-X1 level winner (2nd)
$ 250 cash for MD-2(Texas) level winner
$5000 cash and a trip to the award ceremony for
one international grand prize winner $ 500 cash and Certificate of Achievement to
23 International Merit Award winners
Art: The works vary greatly and reflect the young artists’ life experiences and culture. Participants use a variety of mediums, including charcoal, crayon, pencil and paint, to express the theme “The Future of Peace”.
