Dallas Ace Leos Volunteer
The early shift Lions (front, L-R) PDG Bill Smothermon, Peggi Smothermon, Linda Hodges, Suzanne Buss, PDG Darla Wisdom, Marna Bailey; (back L-R) Bob Hodges, Lion Taylor (South Dallas Lions Club), Stan Altschuler, Steve Bailey, Pat Altschuler, Charlene Vezina, and Bobbi Smith.
The Dallas Ace Leos took two days during the Thanksgiving school break to volunteer with the Salvation Army.
On “Day 1” at the Salvation Army Carr P. Collins Social Service Center the Leos helped
in preparing and serving hot meals to the homeless. Leo Arithra Dominic expressed her
feelings “Going to the Salvation Army meal services showed me how blessed we Leos
and our families are to be able to receive daily good food and live in our own houses. By
seeing all the little children and their parents only receive a small portion of food I
realized how lucky I am to receive a lot of homemade food on my table every single day, food which I take for granted and always waste.” Leo George Mathew followed up with “Volunteering for me was fun. It was really enjoyable to make the food, serve it out to people and see the smiles on their faces once they got it”.
On “Day2” at the North Park Mall the Leos took part in the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign. Leo Michelle Shibu felt “This volunteer experience has truly enlightened me about situations outside of our perfect society. We have heard of people living in poverty and struggling, but it isn't until you come face to face with them that you realize how devastating their situation is. (Continued next page)
