Welcome to the sixty-eighth annual, and very first virtual, meeting of the Society of Professors in
Christian Education! In the midst of this unprecedented and unexpected season, it is such a joy
to gather as friends and colleagues who share a common calling and mission.
This year we come together around the theme, Human Dignity and the Mission of Christian
Education. Our conference has been designed to provide opportunities for community
interaction, professional development, scholarly discourse, and challenging vocational
reflection.
In our plenary sessions, John Kilner and Dan Darling will lead us in an exploration of the reality
of the imago Dei and its significance for human dignity. This will prompt us to recognize the
challenges and opportunities that reality introduces into our lives as Christian educators. We will
consider how the image of God shapes our teaching, animates our relationships, and gives focus
to our view of others.
All in all, our desire for SPCE 2020 is that every element would equip and motivate you to serve
more faithfully and effectively in all of your various outposts of teaching and leadership.
On behalf of the SPCE board, thank you for your presence and investment in this society, and for
your part in sustaining our community of learning. We are truly grateful for each one of you, and
we pray that this day will be beneficial and edifying for all. Enjoy the conference!
