In 1960, tennis once again rose into the ranks of a Ward- law varsity sport, coached by M. Gale Hoffman, and captained by Robert Hellerson.
A schedule of seven matches was gotten, besides being entered in the STATE MEET at LAWRENCEVILLE. Wardlaw's opponents included such teams as ENGLEWOOD, PEDDIE, PINGRY, ST. BERNARD'S, and their age old foe COLLEGIATE of New York City.
A gratifying large turnout has shown the popularity of tennis at Wardlaw, and has resulted in both a varsity and junior team. However, poor weather conditions hindered the preparation of our own courts, and so Coach Hoffman was forced to transfer his squads to the Cedar Brook Park courts for the first several weeks of the season.
Other than Captain Bob Hellerson, none of the 1960 var sity tennis team has had any practical tournament experience under his belt, but as the season progresses. Coach Gale Hoff man hopes to develop his singles and doubles teams into well-drilled combinations.
