DEDICATION '60
James B. Hawley—Professor of Mathematics, advisor to students, and distinguished educator for more than thirty years—it is eminently suitable that we, the staff of the 19'60 Maroon and Gold, dedicate this yearbook to him who holds so warm a spot in everyone's heart.
Mr. Hawley attended Kimball Union Academy, Meriden, New Hampshire, graduating in 1910, and from there went to Dart mouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire, class of 1914. In 1916 he received his Master's Degree from Columbia University, New York City. He came to the Wardlaw School in 1955, bringing
with him many years of invaluable experience from teaching in high schools in various cities on the Eastern seaboard.
Mr. Hawley has the rare talent of making his mathe matics courses interesting and " f u n " because of his unique sense of humor. No student who has squeezed into Mr. Hawley's "Fox Hole" will ever forget mathe matics or "the Schemer!"
We are happy to have this opportunity to pub licly recognize Mr. Hawley's great contribution to
all of us at Wardlaw, and we hope in this fashion to show how much we all love our "Mr. Chips."

Your letter of January 21st requesting information about James B. Hawley has been turned over to this office for a reply.
I am sorry to say that our Alumni files prior to 1936 are quite sketchy, and we do not have on file a copy of any report cards for Mr. Hawley. He attended KUA from 1906-1910, graduating in 1910.
He has been a most loyal alumnus and is responsible for the James B. Hawley Award. Spencer J. Hawley, deceased, of the Class of 1909, left a small sum of money to be awarded for excellence of work in English. The money was used to purchase a silver plaque provided by James fi. Hawley, and
is awarded each year to that member of the Junior Class who does the be.st work in English.
I am enclosing an award certificate with the school
emblem on it. If there is any please do not hesitate to call
VRF/a e n d .
other way in which we can help, upon us.
Sincerely yours,
