It is eight-forty-three. The back door slams shut. A troop of girls pass noisily down the hall. There is a tall one in the midst. She brandishes a gleaming cake knife, and is balancing a tin cake box on a pile of books. Her companions flock to her from study hall, deluging her with dues,
etc. An English accent arises from the chaos. "Hey, these are two months late!” She locks and unlocks bulging money boxes. She checks names of great lists. Suddenly her face drops, "My French corrections!” She is gone. This is Pam.
