To inform and to entertain: this is the function of all journalism, whether written by professionals or by students.
This year the Beacon continued its tradition of providing information about W-H to students, parents, alumni, and friends of the school. Important news stories detailed plans to relocate the Lower School at Inman Avenue, introduced new member of the Upper and Lower School faculty, and reported on major activities of the school year.
On page two, news editors Jill D'Ambrosio and Tara Clifford wrestled with such diverse issues as Senior Class privileges, multi-cultural studies, and mandatory HIV testing for physicians. Continu ing their column begun last June, Bridget Farrell and Lara Spingler gave opposing views on Affirmative Action, Dan Quayle, and other timely controversies. Sports editor Ross Blacker devoted his column to exploring sports throughout the country, while his staff focused on the athletic program at W-H.
And — as usual — the Roving Reporter presented not-always-serious replies to not-always- profound questions.
