1988-89 Varsity Boys' Basketball Team
Robby Rizzo, Matt DelVento, Mark Cruba, Dusty Wyman, Billy Miller, Cary Pate, Jim Boocher, Bob Boccher, Chris McCall, and Todd Kaplan.
Robby Rizzo
Senior Rob Rizzo, a three year mainstay on the Boys' Varsity % Basketball team, is being profiled this year. Rizzo combined a
good outside shot with superb offensive rebounding to become
only the fifth Wardlaw-Hartridge player to score 1000 points in
a varsity career. For the past two seasons, Rob led the team in
both scoring and rebounding. Fie was the only two-time
recepient of the M.V.P. award in retiring Coach Ray Kovonuk's
20 year W.F1. coaching career. A team-oriented player, Rizzo
highlighted his season by hitting key free throws late in a game
to beat Pennington and making First Team All Prep "B" ConferĀ
ence.
Matt Del Vento
Matt Del Vento, a senior guard, is being recognized in this year's yearbook. Del Vento a three-year veteran of the varsity team, developed a devastating outside shot over his career. He continually showed himself to be a defensive stalwart with quick hands who had six steals in a game this season. The Ram's second leading scorer and top passer over the the past two seasons will be most remembered for his heroics against Pennington in a holiday tournament game. Matt calmly stuck a 23 foot jump shot at the buzzer to give Wardlaw-Hartridge their first win over Pennington in 6 years. Matt received second team honors in the Prep "B" Conference this past season.
Billy Miller
Billy Miller, a two year veteran of the Boys' Varsity Basketball team, is one of the seniors being profiled this year. Billy distinguished himself as a true sportsman in both attitude and performance. He was a consistent workhorse under the boards and a player whose competitive spirit was contagious. Billy was the Ram's second leading rebounder and third leading scorer during his senior year. He also received the Sportsmanship Award at the Hopewell Valley Tournament and the Coach's Award this past season.
