Senior Class Prophecy
I was swimming the English Channel. Although I appeared to those watching me to be progressing easily, I was really greatly worried. There was an orchestra on the ship accompanying me, and as I was starting out
1had noticed something hauntingly familiar about its leader. All at once I decided that it must be my old friend and classmate Ruth Ferris! And that is why I suddenly went under when within a ridiculously short distance
of the shore.
When 1had been thoroughly resuscitated and comfortably established in a stateroom, I sent for Ruth. She came with profuse apologies. She had meant to be a pleasant surprise for me rather than the cause of my
failure. 1had difficulty in explaining how delighted I was to see her again. “ But what have you been doing all these years?” 1 asked.
“Oh, touring Europe in search of a truly distinguished orchestra to lead. Eve just assembled it. It’s been years and years since I was last in America. What is your sister doing?”
