 ^mmkgmfM The Christmas Play
The Oakwood Dramatic Society gave on Sunday evening, December the thirteenth, a lo\'ely presentation of an old Knglish Miracle Play of the Chester Series. It was beautifully done down to the finest point of char
acterization, costuming and scenery. Christmas Hymns, between the
scenes, were sung with great feeling and added much to the spirit of the evening.
Ihe first scene showed several poor shepherds, l.ois Beebe, Con stance VanDuyn, Alice Pardee, and Jean Bassett, in ragged garb, with dark lined faces, in the field tending their flocks. Soon there appeared to them the Angel Gabriel, Dorothy Bugbee, in a glory of light which played u\[)on her huge wings. This was accompanied by the song of an
angel. Miss Hewes, behind the scenes. Gabriel then promised to show them the way to Bethlehem and the Lord Jesus Christ. In like manner three stately kings, Anne Breckenridge, Nancy Sayles, and Estella Good-
speed, arrayed in most costly and elaborate garments, were led to the lowly stable, d'he lovely blue curtain was parted to reveal an altar with incense and exquisite paintings of angels. At its foot sat as Mary, Mary Harriet Collins. Beside the cradle on either side were two angels, Nancy
Bacon and Nancy Humpstone, with many-colored wings. They guarded the mother and child, while Joseph, Sarah Maud Weyerhaeuser, standing behind, completed the picture. Twice this was seen as the humble shep herds and later the kings, made their respective offerings. Mary blessed them in the name of Jesus. The play finished with the audience singing the last verse of “Oh Little Town of Bethlehem,” while the curtain was
slowly drawn.
