her, as she looks so delicate, and has such a wistful, far-away look in her eyes.
“You knew that Jean was running a hair-dressing establishment in Paris, didn’t you? Yes, she has made a specialty of cutting hohs, and has persuaded thousands of people to wear their hair in this sanitary fashion. The strange \])art of it is that her own hair has at last grown in and she is so proud of it that she wears it down her back in a pig-tail. She hrst had it shaved, you
know.
“To continue; Hildegarde Halliday made one of the sensations of the
day. You know that thrilling moving picture that has just been presented— vou don’t? Why Sue Searle and Hildegarde are playing the leading parts. Sue as the man.' You see, she got so accustomed to taking men’s parts at
school that she went right on after\vards, and she really makes an excellent hero. To come hack to Hildegarde, she plays an adorable little ingenue role. She has bleached her hair, which she wears in long, silky ringlets, and she is
known as Marv Pickford Hallidav.
Poor Kathrvn Clark! She really has had a very tragic life. There
used to be a girl at school named Annabel—you remember her. She and Kathryn were never separated until the latter went to Vassar. The year at college without her chum cjuite unbalanced the poor girl. She now lives alone in the woods comforted only by a violent passion for nature. She writes \])oetry, too, weird, supernatural sort of stuff, which has become quite famous.
“Margaret Borland? Why she has had the most thrilling past you ever want to hear! It really sounds just like a story. She returned from Africa a
year ago, where she had gone as a missionary. It seems that a certain tribe, having strong religious beliefs of their own, objected to having Margaret in
stilling new ideas in their children, and, conseciuently, sought to put an end to their troubles, and, incidentally, to Margaret too. They practised their art of
‘suspended animation’ on her, and she was buried alive for three davs. Poor soul! Her hair has turned perfectly white and she has a more harrassed look than ever disfigured us when we used to issue from a geometry class.
“Wasn’t it sad about Kitty! She married a professor of archaeology, you know, and a few years ago they went over to Egypt to make excavations. While they were searching through a valley there was a terrible landslide.
They were caught beneath it and that was the end. So sad—yes!
