The June Dance
The two days between Commencement and the school dance last year gave everyone an exceptionally long time to prepare for the evening of June 10th. The Juniors had been unceasing in their energy and originality,
and the result was really cjuite like fairy-land, with masses of pink rambler roses and ferns in every conceivable nook and corner, and streamers of honey- suckle swinging in graceful curves from the high chandelier in the center of the room to the side lights around the walls. The school rooms on the ground floor had magically been converted into cozy sitting rooms, and the porch outside was hung with Japanese lanterns.
The guests began to arrive at an early hour and were received by Miss Hartridge and the members of the graduating class in the Auditorium.
The evening, interrupted at about 11 o’clock for refreshments, flew by, and it seemed no time at all before the musicians played their last piece, and the guests, with many words of thanks to Miss Hartridge, began to leave.
It was almost impossible to believe that the school year was over, and the dance, the June dance, was a thing of the past.
