 HONORABLE MP:NTI0N
AUTUMN BONFIRE
Glow'ing, entrancing, ethereal light; Shimmering, dancing, far into the night. Mystical dreamy, mysterious sight!
Fdusive and poignant, weirdly it streams,
Alive with the souls of dead leaves, as it seems.
Stirring some slumhering sense, horn of dreams
Fanciful, wavering smoke, trailing higher, Wreathed in a circling, intangible fire.
Wraith of my fancy’s hope—Autumn Bonfire!
Fland in hand with youth go joy and hope. And all the thrill of things that are to be.
And with old age come tears
And thoughts of dreams unrealized.
Must we all how to this same fate.
Accept this ancient destiny?
A cry goes up through all the world,
A longing to keep young. And why?
Just for a sjiace of time to make our dreams come true.
Those who keej) hoping are forever young;
Jkit when ho\{)e goes, then life is gone and we grow old. Must we try ever to deceive ourselves
Into believing our dreams
Are more than castles in the air?
The answer comes, “If you
Want life, and youth, and joy.
Then keej) your dreams before you. And forget the past.’’
