It was November First, Homecoming Day,
When South Plainfield came field hockey to play.
They were big and strong and they were mean.
They were the toughest hockey players that you’ve ever
The defense was tough and they were fine.
Let me tell you ’bout the players on the fullback line. First there’s Darice who played to cover.
She tackled and lunged ’til the game was over.
Sara the sweeper refused to fold.
In every play she stopped them cold.
Lisa our goalie came to play, i« When the ball came near her she kicked it away.
South Plainfield thought the game a cinch.
But the Wardlaw-Hartridge team didn’t give an inch. In the second half we found a hole.
And we put the ball right in their goal.
Then our defense was put to the test.
And in the final minutes they played their best.
At the end of the game we all did cheer,
Tf was the finest game we played all year.

“The most outstanding characteristic of our team this year is our positive attitude. No matter what the score, the girls never give up.’’ This is how the Field Hockey coach, Ellen Spinner, described her team this year. Under her coaching, the team improved its record to 4-8-4. She hopes to better the record next season.
Macada McMullen was the Most Valuable Player. She scored two goals and had one assist. The leading scorer was Ann Wyman with three goals and two assists. Betsy Moody was given the Coaches’ Award and Darice Rose was presented the Most Improved Player Award. Laura Stout was the Most Outstanding Defensive Player and Lisa Lim did a fine job in goal.
