VARSITY BASKETBALL
The 1965 varsity basketball team was laden with talent, but the squad lacked that certain something that makes a winner.
The team opened with a victory over Carteret School but quickly lost the touch in successive losses to Montclair, Newark, and Jewish Education Center. After Christmas, the Rams seemed to have found a winning desire and beat College High in overtime. Two days later, the cagers knocked off St. Bernard's.
The following week spelled disaster. Captain Bill Pratt was ill and John Robson sprained his ankle. The Rams fell to Rutgers Prep and to College High. Then the squad easily beat Morristown Prep, 64-49, as Glen Bliwise poured in 33 points, a new school record.
Successive losses to Stevens Academy, 53-50, in overĀ time, and Montclair Academy dropped the record to 4-7, although the latter was well played. Victories over Saddle River and Morristown followed. The Rams then closed their year with losses to St. Bernard's, Englewood School, Carteret School, St. Bernard's a second time, and Rutgers Prep.
Senior Bill Dubin was high scorer for the year, hitting for 261 points, seven short of Rich Weinberg's school record.
