VARSITY WRESTLING
The 1965 Wardlaw varsity wrestling team finished its season with two victories and six defeats. Although the record was rather disappointing, the team is young and has a bright future.
The wrestlers, largely an inexperienced group, spent the major part of the year learning fundamentals of the sport under the guidance of Coaches Edward Gunther and Robert Johnson. Because of its inexperience, the team had considerable trouble trying to apply its knowl edge to the mat.
Although it was an inexperienced team, the grapplers fared better than expected in the NJISAA championships. The team came in fifth with 17 points. Rick Tittmann (4-2 at 157) finished second in the 178-pound class. Tim Perry
(5-3) came in third at 167. Don Condon (3-5) finished third at 115. Tom Hinkel (1-4) placed fourth at 98. Rich Rugen (122 pounds) finished the season with a 6-7 record but could not wrestle in thte states because of a back injury.
Other wrestlers who turned in good performances for the team were Flip Connell (105), Jay Cannis (130), Rodger Whipple (135), Mark Harris (141), Fred Toth
(141), Bruce Hoblitzell (141), Jeff Hewit (148), Bob
Whitman (178), and John Conk (hwt.). J
