VARSITY BASEBALL
With seven lettermen returning this year, the varsity baseball team was hopeful that experience, plus a strong pitching staff, could carry its season successfully through.
The squad nucleus consisted of infielders Ron Kent, Slen Bliwise, and Bill Pratt; outfielder Rodger Whipple; and catcher Vic Levine; and pitchers Jim Stewart and John Robson. Backing up these lettermen were J. V. graduates Lee De Carlo, Dick Whitney, Pete Everett, and Mike SeligĀ mann as well as newcomers Bob Stark and Dave Larison.
Hitting and outfielding appeared early in the season to be weak points for the squad. Ram batters did not seem too strong at the plate, and there was a shortage of players in the outfield. Pitchers doubling as outfielders remedied the latter problem.
Co-captains Bliwise and Whipple were pleased with the team's "experience, depth, and good pitching."
