FINE ARTS
In the Art department, activity is fo cused on the eighth grade, the only class required to take an art course. Mr. Price strives to make these classes interesting by relating them to the his tory department’s schedule. Thus with the study of ancient history the stu dents learned how to build pots in the style of the early cultures. Through this work Price hopes to bring the students to the realization that art in the ancient world was an integral part of civilization. To the other grades, the art room is an open workshop. Mr. Price feels his major role with the old er students is to make them aware of
the materials available and guide them in the techniques to be used.
The Music Department strives to make music a vital part of the school’s curriculum. Mr. Arthur McKenzie, de partment head, says, “ I believe that every student should have a good background in music history and mus ic literature, and an opportunity to participate in a performing group.” Students are offered a variety of courses such as Music Experience, Broadway Musicals, and 20th Century Music. Performing groups include Chorale, Mixed Chorus, and Varsity Singers. Students are also encouraged to audition for and participate in the Regional and All State Choruses and in the Spring Musical.
