A Day at the Boarding School
5.00 A. M.— Frances emerges from her downy couch, takes her German from her book-bag, returns to bed, and studies till the rising bell rings.
7.20— Jack peers above the covers, sleepily inquires the time and turns over to sleep again, hut upon her room-mate’s informing
her that she has only four minutes left, she jumps up like lightning, dashes to the bath room,— splash! splash! splash— Hies back and
is completely dressed in three minutes.
7.30— Nancy, who has been up at least half an hour, but who has been visiting instead of dressing, rushes over to breakfast, the entire school having finished dressing her.
8.10—Ethelwyn, who always rides to school in the morning, staggers to the ’bus weighed down by hook-bags, umbrellas, hats, coats, and gym shoes belonging to her less fortunate friends, who don’t practise before school.
8.15—I'he bell rings and all the girls start out for school.
8.20— On the way to school Sis loses another button off her dilapidated shoes, but declares that since it’s after the first of May and the open season for low shoes has begun, she’ll not sew on another one.
8.30— Charlotte, having arrived at the day school, makes a wild dash for the mail.
8.40— Recitations last till one.
i.o<; P. M.— Margery Meigs, coming home in the third ’bus, casts on stitches for a sweater as she leaves school and binds off when she reaches Oakwood.
1) 1.30— Catherine Stockwell goes over to lunch carrying the “ Acorn
alarm clock, to set it by the correct time.
