THE BOHFIRE'
It will certainly go down as one of the most memorable times of my life. I had been appointed to design what was to be this year's pep raliy and be in charge o f all the night's proceedings. I first went to Jack Sharp who was the senior class president and suggested that we see Mr. Ayres about a possibie fir^-ever "W-H Spirit Week." It would be the five school days leading up to Homecoming. They actuaily went for it and October 9th to the 15th would be set aside for re-building whatever Ram spirit there was left and to also
just have a lot of fun. All Upper School students paid $5.00 to dress down for the entire week provided they came dressed in green, gold, or anything else that showed school spirit. Monday was Field Hockey Day, Tuesday was Cross Country Day, Wednesday was Football/Cheerleaders Day, Thursday was Tennis Day, and Friday was Soccer Day. Each team member from these particular sports wore the tops to his uniform on the day of his sport. Of the entire Spirit Week nothing was more fun than gathering the wood. Those who were there will agree. After dark, the night before the bonfire, a big group of seniors heiped me transport the wood over to the sight. We drove two jeeps, a BMW, and Hoiiy Snyder's big deathmobile between the soccer and footbaii fieids over to the woods and started ioading everything that couid burn into each vehicle and then sped back to dump it aii onto the bonfire sight. If you can picture 20 plus seniors dragging bleachers across football fields late at night, then you have an idea o f what happened next. What can I say? I thought it would be nice for kids to sit and watch the bonfire burn.
The pep raiiy was awesome. Matt Stepanski designed the gym decorating and just about anyone who wanted to contribute did. Micheiie Wright, Stacey Brown, and Hoiiy Snyder spent the night decorating the school. All that was needed was a gimick. So I turned to Craig Bosonac and asked, "Do you have a credit card?" He did and we set off to get party string that Mr. Church wiii never forgive me for. They were a quick seller and a mess maker. I should know, I had the stuff stuck in my hair for days afterward. Then I said to Jack, "Let's have a homecoming king and queen." So we sat at a table during iunch and coiiected votes from faculty and students alike untii two seniors were chosen. Later that night, about 10 minutes before the rally, I asked Jen Torres, "D o we have anything for the winners?" So that minute we sped out to Burger Ring and got gag crowns. Then the pep rally, then the bonfire. Members of our senior class threw string cans and fireworks into the fire. All in all the whole week was, I assume, loads of fun for the everyone in the school. After all, my moto this year was: I don't care how much money we make just as long as we have fun.
