Headmaster Views Twelve Years of Progress
V
\v^
Completing his twelfth year as headmaster of Wardlaw Country Day School, Mr. Prentice C. Horne can look back upon the past as years of continuous progress.
He has seen the student body grow from 144 to the current 363 enrollment. He has seen the six upper grades of the school move from the old Central Ave nue address to a beautiful new campus on Inman Avenue.
After teaching for 14 years at Deerfield Academy, Mr. Horne was appointed Wardlaw headmaster when the school in 1959 was reorganized as a non-profit, corporate institution.
Mr. and Mrs. Horne live on Glenwood Avenue, Plainfield, in the house donated to the school by Mr. Arthur B. Hill in memory of his wife. The Hornes had for many years lived on Rockview Avenue, North Plainfield.
Their eldest daughter, Sally, now Mrs. Henry C. Conklin, became the mother last summer of a son, Todd Henry. Jed, former Wardlaw student and Deer field graduate, is doing graduate work at Harvard University. Carol, their second daughter and alumna of The Hartridge School, is a student at Northeastern University. Jimmy, younger of the two sons, is com pleting the ninth grade at Hun School.
Since “Student Life” is theme of this year’s Maroon and Gold, Mr. Horne’s significance as Ward- law headmaster is especially apparent.
Mr. and Mrs. Horne relax on Elizabeth Eliza on Lake Sunapee.
Headmaster spends long hours at his desk.
