The W-H girls' tennis team team began training at the school in the second week of August. The girls’ preseason included a trip with the boys' tennis team to the US Open in New York City.
This year, former JV coach Ron Haynes began as head coach of the varsity team, and the team excelled greatly under their new leader. "There was no real adjustment to make as head coach because of the combination of having been a coach and already knowing the girls and the school,” Haynes said. “My efforts all season long were directed towards helping these players meet their potential.”
From July 31 to August 2, the four yearbook editors, Aneesa Sonawalla, Abby Rogers, Sonya Sinha, and Jessica Clarke, as well as the advisor, Dr. Clifford, travelled to Gettysburg College to attend the 2011 Jostens Y earbook W orkshop. At the conference, the team learned about taking moving photographs, creating effective designs, and writing informative text to create a better yearbook. The group also formulated the major ideas that you see in this year’s book such as the “More than...”theme and the chronological format. Overall, the conference was educational and tons of fun.

Boys' Preseason Soccer Trip
The boys soccer team traveled to Camp Shohola in Pennsylvania to prepare for the upcoming season. Despite the constant annoyance of the bugs, the team worked hard and bonded during their preseason trip.
Volleyball
On August 15th, 2011, the girls’ volleyball team came back to the court for the first time in almost ten months. Their preseason was devoted to learning and honing those skills which are so imperative when playing the game: bumping, setting, spiking, serving, and generally working as a team. The girls welcomed three new freshmen, Miah, Camille, and Julia, as well as two juniors, Kim and Chetna. The new players proved to be valuable assets during the season, as the team experienced their first ever wins in the GMC division, which they entered at the start of the 2010-2011 school year. The girls would often go out for food together post-practice, showing that there was true bonding on the team this year. Once the season started, the Rams showed that they were, in fact, rams, and defeated their opponents more than once. Freshman Miah Hagood said, “Preseason helped me realize just how important certain skills are. It helped me gain skills before I actually had to put them to work in a game."
